Menu and Background properties:

This dialog is started with a right click on the menu background and selecting 'Menu properties' in the context menu.
BakDialog

1. Image
With right-click on the   icon right next to the image, you can open a selection window for pictures in the formats JPG, BMP, PNG and GIF. The selected picture is scaled automatically to 720x576 pixel (or 720x480 for NTSC).

2. Animation (only shown if 'animated menus' is switched on)
If a background animation is selected, the 'Image' (point 1) has no meaning anymore for the final DVD. You can use MPEG files (should be elementary streams) or uncompressed AVI (the video will be reencoded each case). The duration of the video is not shown here, you need to know it yourself and enter it in the 'Duration' field below. Caution: If you use an animated background video, or also a still background video with sound, you have to make sure that the duration of these background elements fits to the duration given here. Otherwise 'loop' will not work correct... You may also do the 'opposite' and activate 'Loop and Trim' for the background animation file, then the background animation is either looped or cut to the given duration. If an audio should be added too, the duration must fit to the one of the video (or to the given duration if 'Loop and Trim' is activ).

3. Audiofile
If you use a MP2 or AC3 file as background music, you see some additional information (Bitrate, duration...).

4. Animation settings (applies also for still menus with sound!)
The 'Duration' to be entered here has to fit to all elements (background animation and/or background music)!  If a background animation is used, the Quality setting has no meaning (as HC/QuEnc is used in constant quality mode).
If the background is an image you can choose to encode only one picture (or the given number of frames for still menus from the Def. Settings respectively) for the menu video file (1 frame) or (perhaps some stand alone Players need it?!) a menu video file with the same length as the audio file (Full length). For a "Full length" menu video it may make sense to decrease the bit rate and or quality to keep the file smaller.

Remark: Some users reported problems for still menus with sound if the number of frames for still menus was not set to "1" . With 2 or more frames only 'Full length' encoding was possible. Using insnav, less problems have been reported for 1 or 2 frames, but total failure with more than 6 frames. These parameters can be set in the internal Def. Settings. If you use MuxMan as authoring engine, this parameter has no meaning.

Highlight delay (seconds): Number of seconds until the button highlight is 'switched on'.

Transition (only visible if both advanced mode and animated menus is turned on): If activated the menu is considered to be a transition between other menus (or also between menu and movie). The actual 'Transition' (usually crossfade or fade in/ fade out) can be set up with the Transition Script Editor. See: Transition menus for more information.

5. Post action
Here you can select whether the whole menu is to repeat itself  (loop) or not. Loop should be used for animated menus or still menus with sound only.
Pause:  Sets the time the menu is shown (if no buttons are pressed so long) before the selected action is raised (or the menu is shown again if looping).  The range is 0 to 255 seconds or "inf" (infinite).
Advanced Pre/Post Command Editor: With this button you can start a simple VM-Command editor to change pre and post commands for this menu. As long as you stay with the 'Default' values here, GfD automatically calculates/sets these commands according to the selected 'Start'- and 'End' actions in the default project settings. To achive more control of these actions, you may 'overwrite' the default values (i.e. to set a specific register or audio stream/subtitle stream, jump to another menu according to a register value...). In this case you are responsible for the logic yourself.

6. Raster settings
Raster X: Raster width in X (horizontal) direction
Raster Y: Raster width in Y (vertical) direction
Defaults may be set in internal default settings

7. Menutype
The menu type can be changed here, but only for submenus of titlesetmenus. As only one root/audio/chapter... menu is allowed per titleset, you cannot change the menu type to an already existing 'special' submenu. You can always change a 'special' submenu to the general type: 'submenu'.

8. Blur settings
Enable or disable blurring for this menu and set up the values for X (horizontal) direction and Y (vertical) direction
Defaults may be set in internal default settings
See also: Using Blur

9. Highlight settings
See: HighLight properties

10. Style
Here you may change the highlight style for the actual menu (see also default menu settings). For Titleset menus (for all other menus this value is read only) you may also change the menu aspect ratio to a different value than the global menu aspect ratio (as defined in the default menu settings). This menu aspect ratio is then also applied to all submenus of the actual titleset menu.
