Startscreen and general UI description
After the first start the program should look like this (picture is a little compressed here):
startscreenie

If the buttons 'Create DVD' and 'Create Batch' are deactivated, GFD could not find the path to dvdauthor (or MuxMan if selected as authoring engine). In this case open the Def. Settings and set a correct path in the tab: Permanent. A similar requirement applies for 'Show DVD': This button is only active if you have selected a DVD Soft Player like WinDVD, Media Player Classic or PowerDVD (works only with Version 6!) in the settings. You may also change the program language (german or English) in the tab 'Intern'.
As usual you have several possibilities to do something in GFD:
- Choose a menu command
- Use an icon or button (Insert, Settings, Final)
- Use the context menus (right click/double click) for the element

All elements (buttons, texts, images...) can be moved with the mouse or with the cursor keys.

Some commands (insert menu/button/animation) are disabled (grayed out) if they 'contradict' a general setting (like advanced mode or animated menus)

IMPORTANT: The authoring engine (dvdauthor or MuxMan) and the General Settings (Def. Settings, tab: Project) cannot be changed (Animated menus and Advanced mode to 'on', but not off again), as soon as the first film is added!

PAL/NTSC
: I (hopefully!) don't have to explain…
Animated menus: Enables the creation of motion menus (AVISynth and HCbatch or QuEnc necessary!). Enter the duration of your intended motion menu in the 'Seconds' text box. Caution: If you use an animated background video, or also a still background video with sound, you have to make sure that the duration of these background elements fits to the duration given here. Otherwise 'loop' will not work correct... For animated buttons it is not necessary to have the same duration, as they are looped (if necessary) within the given duration for the background. The duration is just a default and may be changed for each menu individually. Since version 0.99.2 you may turn on Animated menus at any time, but not off again. Furthermore no animated buttons are created for already existing film buttons.
Use Titlesets : If this option is activated, for each added film an own titleset (and thus a chapter menu) is created (-> multi VTS DVD). In this mode you may mix several video resolutions/aspect ratios on one DVD.
Advanced mode: Enables the creation of submenus (i.e. for subtitle and language selection, but also for multi page chapter selections or other special purposes). As you are more or less responsible for the DVD logic by yourself using this mode, it is for advanced users mainly. Since version 0.99.2 you may turn on Advanced mode at any time, but not off again.
No Menus: If enabled, a DVD without menus is created. You can add the movies like usual (also use several audio streams, chapter marks...), so there is no big difference in the work flow. This setting is even hard to notice at all during the setup of the DVD. But if you try to open a titlesetmenu you will get an error. The settings for advanced mode and animations are disabled and the start/end actions are automatically set to 'Play movie' and 'Next title' During the final creation process the following rules apply:
- For single VTS no menus are created at all;
- For multi VTS empty (black) dummy mpegs are used (at least Nero rises an error otherwise), but these are never shown (jumped over with a <pre> tag before the menu). Using MuxMan, no menus are created at all.
Loop with jump menu: Fixes the shortening of looping menus for PowerDVD and some SA players. The syntax for the looping is much more complicated (and not well tested ATM), so changing the XML files by hand is more difficult with this setting.
